WATER QUALITY

Public Water Supply District No. 3 is dedicated to providing quality drinking water. Our water is routinely monitored and sampled to ensure the safety of our patrons. PWSD No. 3 has implemented a quality control flushing program to improve the quality of water. This program involves flushing every water main within our distribution system on a yearly basis. Low flow water mains are flushed on a routine schedule to remove possible stagnant water.

CONSUMER CONFIDENCE REPORT (CCR)

The State of Missouri and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) require all public water suppliers to send out a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) to describe the quality of the water people are consuming.

This provides an opportunity for PWSD No. 3 to educate our consumers about the sources and quality of their drinking water. The CCR is published and distributed approximately May of each year with the previous years test results. You may notice some test results more than 1 year old. The state has reduced PWSD No. 3’s monitoring requirements for certain contaminants to less often than once per year because the concentrations of these contaminants are not expected to vary significantly from year to year.

quality control flushing

Flushing removes sediments and stale water from the mains. Much of our distribution system is designed with loops or interconnected grids, which keep water constantly moving around. However, some areas have dead-ends where water moves slowly and sits for longer periods of time. These dead-end mains need to be flushed to ensure the presence of fresh water with sufficient dissolved oxygen, disinfectant levels and an acceptable taste and smell. The flushing process may cause discolored water and a reduction in pressure. Both of these conditions are temporary and not harmful. If either of these conditions persist, please contact our office. If you experience discolored water or if your water has a different taste or smell please contact our office and ask to have the water main flushed. Mains are flushed for approximately 24 hours. The hose allows us to divert the water to the nearest ditch.

WELLHEAD PROTECTION

The purpose of the Wellhead Protection Plan is to protect the drinking water source for Public Water Supply District No. 3. Our Wellhead Protection Area consists of mostly residential home owners and a few local businesses. Educating our customers on ways they could help protect our public drinking water facility is the best way to help keep the public drinking water from being contaminated. PWSD No. 3 is putting together a Wellhead Protection Committee. If anyone is interested in becoming part of a committee to protect our Public Drinking Water inquire at our office.

CROSS CONNECTION

A "cross-connection" is any physical connection or potential connection whereby the public water system is connected, directly or indirectly, with any other water supply system, sewer, drain, conduit, pool, storage reservoir, plumbing fixture or other waste or liquid of unknown or unsafe quality, which may be capable of imparting contamination to the public water system as a result of backflow or back siphonage

WATER PRESSURE REDUCING VALVES

Public Water Supply District No. 3’s water lines are gravity feed. Therefore we do not have a way of reducing water pressure to individual homes. Reducing the water pressure in your home can be done by adjusting your water pressure regulator. Every home should have Water Pressure Reducing Valves.

BOIL ORDER

Occasionally Public Water Supply District No. 3 will issue a precautionary boil water advisory. This does not mean that the water is necessarily contaminated. PWSD No. 3 will issue a boil order to make sure our customers are safe. Notification could be made by any of the following ways: telephone, email notification, door hangers, or on local radio stations.

BACKFLOW

Backflow is the reversal of water flow from its normal direction. This reverse flow can send a customer's contaminated water back into the public system's safe drinking water supply.
